Intro
The Focus of this SO4J Bible Study is to show the Reader the Fallacies behind the Popular False Gospel being Promoted in Books, TV, today. This False Gospel is misleading, and only promotes a Half Truth which produces False Converts (Thorny & Rocky Ground Hearers) who are merely focused on this Life, and not in “Picking up their Cross and Following Jesus” (Luke 9:23-25). These False Converts do not endure until the End (Matt 24:13) when Tested with the Testings & Trials of this Life. They only show one side of the Story. Jesus promised True Believers that we would have Persecutions, Trials, Tribulations (John 16:33). We are to Obey God’s Word out of a Love for Jesus (John 14:15.21,23-24) whether you have Plenty or not (Heb 13:5, 2 Cor 12:10, 1 Tim 6:8, Phil 4:18). Jesus talked about how we will be Tested, in the Parable of the Sower: Matt 13:3-23, Mark 4:3-20, Luke 8:5-15.
Some the Fallacies behind the Health & Wealth Gospel or Your Best Life Now thinking, is that they do not talk about the Fact that the Apostle Paul (who God used to write 12-13 Books in the New Testament) talks about the MANY times he was Beaten & Suffered for Christ (2 Cor 11:23-30, 2 Cor 6:4-10). John the Baptist was Beheaded for Christ (Mark 6:27). Paul & Silas were Beaten and thrown in Prison (Acts 16:22-34). Peter was Thrown in Prison (Acts 12:3-11). God used these Persecutions, and Sufferings for His Eternal Glory, to strip His Church of Self, and to help spead the Gospel.
Philip 1:12-14 Paul says, “I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that Everything that has happened to me here has HELPED TO SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in Chains because of Christ. And because of my Imprisonment, Most of the Believers here have Gained Confidence and Boldly Speak God’s Message without Fear.”
Right now we might not suffer for Christ like they did (so to speak), but we Suffer for Christ when we Put the Flesh Under, and Stop Sinning (1 Peter 4:1, Phil 4:13).
The Message of the Modern Prosperity Gospel, and many Word of Faith Health & Wealth Preachers & Teachers are Messages that are merely focused on this Life. Teachings are on: How to Be Happy, Prosperous, Solve their Stress in Life Problems, How to Have a Better Life Now, etc. They Preach & Teach a different gospel that “Tickles people’s ears” (NASB).
2 Tim 4:3-4 “For a Time is coming when people will no longer listen to Sound and Wholesome Teaching. They will follow their Own Desires and will look for Teachers who will tell them whatever their Itching Ears want to Hear. They will Reject the Truth and Chase after Myths.”
Would Noah ever have Preached “Smile, God has a Wonderful Plan For Your Life”…and then sudden destruction happens? No Way. God sent the Flood in Righteous Noah’s Day (2 Peter 2:5-10), and Jesus is Coming back to Judge the World in Righteousness (2 Thess 1:7-9, Acts 17:30-31).
2 Peter 2:5-10 “And God did not spare the ancient world—except for Noah and the seven others in his family. Noah warned the World of God’s Righteous Judgment. So God protected Noah when he destroyed the world of ungodly people with a vast flood. Later, God condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and turned them into heaps of ashes. He made them an example of what will happen to ungodly people. But God also rescued Lot out of Sodom because he was a Righteous man who was sick of the shameful immorality of the wicked people around him. Yes, Lot was a Righteous man who was Tormented in his Soul by the wickedness he saw and heard day after day. So you see, the Lord knows how to rescue Godly people from their Trials, even while keeping the Wicked under Punishment until the day of Final Judgment. He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority. These people are Proud and Arrogant, daring even to scoff at supernatural beings without so much as trembling.”
We ought to be instead Warning the World to Turn from their Sin & Believe the Gospel (Acts 20:21, John 14:15), or they will Perish…Forever !(Rom 2:5-6,7-8,9-10, Acts 17:30-31) God’s Love for us made a way of Escape from God’s Eternal Wrath for our Sin thru Jesus Christ. If you are a True Believer in Jesus we are to go into all the World and Preach this Good News, because God uses the Foolishness of Preaching God’s Word to Save people from His Wrath & Punishment against Sin (1 Cor 1:18,21, Mark 16:15, Acts 1:8, Rom 6:23).
Jesus, Peter, Paul Never taught things like: “God has a Wonderful Plan For Your Life.”
Jesus was Crucified, Peter, & Paul, and others were thrown into Prison for the True Gospel, Tortured (2 Cor 11:23-30, 2 Cor 6:4-10), Murdered for their Faith in God & His Word, etc.
2 Cor 11:23-30 “Are they servants of Christ? I know I sound like a madman, but I have served him far more! I have worked harder, been put in prison more often, been whipped times without number, and faced death again and again. Five different times the Jewish leaders gave me thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods. Once I was stoned. Three times I was shipwrecked. Once I spent a whole night and a day adrift at sea. I have traveled on many long journeys. I have faced danger from rivers and from robbers. I have faced danger from my own people, the Jews, as well as from the Gentiles. I have faced danger in the cities, in the deserts, and on the seas. And I have faced danger from men who claim to be believers but are not. I have worked hard and long, enduring many sleepless nights. I have been hungry and thirsty and have often gone without food. I have shivered in the cold, without enough clothing to keep me warm. Then, besides all this, I have the daily burden of my concern for all the churches. Who is weak without my feeling that weakness? Who is led astray, and I do not burn with anger? If I must boast, I would rather boast about the things that show how weak I am.”
2 Cor 6:4-10 “In everything we do, we show that we are true ministers of God. We patiently endure troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind. We have been beaten, been put in prison, faced angry mobs, worked to exhaustion, endured sleepless nights, and gone without food. We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love. We faithfully preach the truth. God’s power is working in us. We use the weapons of righteousness in the right hand for attack and the left hand for defense. We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors. We are ignored, even though we are well known. We live close to death, but we are still alive. We have been beaten, but we have not been killed. Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.”

Can you imagine hearing John the Baptist, Noah, Peter, or Paul Preaching Sermons like: “Discover Your Self-Confidence”, or “Let’s Feel Good About Ourselves: God’s Way to the Good Life”, or how about: “Self-Love: the Dynamic Force of Success…?” These are the actual Book Titles of “Christian” Author Robert Schuller! Jesus NEVER preached such Heresy! This is all Contrary to God’s Word. Much of the Word of Faith Prosperity gospel & Movement Preaches a HALF-HEARTED LUKEWARM & FUZZY “gospel” that “tickles people’s ears” (2 Tim 4:3-5). Their Teaching merely makes people FEEL GOOD about themselves— Temporarily— for this Life.
Many Preach the SELF-ESTEEM “gospel” (like Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, Robert Schuller, and many others). Their Heretical Preaching (a departure from the Core Beliefs & Teachings in the Word of God) is never too Convicting, because it’s usually TALK that builds up a: Church, a Person, or an Organization and/or Ministry, and NOT a Message of which Jesus Preached about (John 16:8-11); and what God’s Word Exhorts and Warns us about which is: Repentance (Acts 17:30-31), Sin, God’s Righteousness, Holiness, Coming Judgment, Obeying Jesus & God’s Word— or a warning of Eternal Hell (which is all over God’s Word).
John 16:8-9 Jesus says,”When He (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will CONVICT THE WORLD OF IT’S SIN, and of GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS, and of the COMING JUDGMENT. The World’s Sin is that it refuses to believe in Me.”
Some of us here at SO4J were once involved in the False Teachings of the Word of Faith Movement so we understand this. We must Search the Scriptures Daily (Acts 17:11), and compare the Teachings of these W.O.F. Ministers with the Word of God— with the Teachings of Christ, and all of God’s Word. The W.O.F. Ministers Twist the Scriptures.
